So you enjoyed it ? Fine. It's a great Xmas show but didn't fit the soundtrack. And if you really did get something out of it, how come you can't accept that other people might have different opinions ? If you ever had any "once strong faith" you'd know what Jesus stood for. He was the guy who threw the merchants out of the temple.Doundou Tchilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07469682216179706743noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-416983732847060845.post-22931944402587870462010-01-04T10:20:25.186+00:002010-01-04T10:20:25.186+00:00Oh for goodness sake! The ENO Messiah brought the text home to me (and others I know) more than any concert Messiah has ever done. And forget the snobbery about Christmas cards. Reproductions of Old Masters in card form can educate people who have never seen them before and would not be in a hurry to go to a gallery. As a small child, it was Christmas cards that ignited my passion for Renaissance art and it is Deborah Warner who has not only re-ignited my passion for Messiah but has made me gather up the ragged ends of my once-strong faith and think again.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-416983732847060845.post-52120927952738377612009-12-02T17:17:49.376+00:002009-12-02T17:17:49.376+00:00Not a problem at all. Of course Handel didn't write the libretto, he used it so it's his. Of course its "all" not "are" but the meaning of the words is "are". Of course the words are about God but the staging isn't. There is a saying, "Can't see the wood for the trees".Doundou Tchilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07469682216179706743noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-416983732847060845.post-35941771513107443592009-11-30T13:18:25.967+00:002009-11-30T13:18:25.967+00:00[“Are we like sheep?” goes Handel’s libretto.]

Oh, and it's not "Are we like sheep?" but "All we like sheep"! This reviewer's sneers at Warner's fine and intelligent production would carry more weight if he/she had a basic acquaintance with Handel's/Jennens's text.gareth1559https://www.blogger.com/profile/09408922608476421321noreply@blogger.com
